Ranchi, Apr 11 (PTI) Leader of opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Babulal Marandi on Saturday wrote to Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanding a CBI or a judicial probe into alleged fake salary withdrawals from government treasuries.

The senior BJP leader alleged the matter was not limited to financial irregularities, but pointed towards a “widespread and organised corruption.” “According to information available so far, the scam has been confirmed in districts such as Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Sahibganj, Garhwa, and Palamu. Illegal withdrawals amounting to more than Rs 35 crore have been indicated from these districts,” Marandi mentioned in the letter.

Demanding an impartial and thorough investigation into the role of DSPs and SPs, Marandi said the role of JAP-IT in the entire matter should also be investigated.

“The investigation into this serious treasury scam should be conducted either by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or through a judicial inquiry under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Jharkhand High Court, so that the truth can be uncovered and the guilty can be given the harshest possible punishment,” Marandi demanded.

Five persons have been arrested in the Hazaribag SP office treasury scam, and the embezzlement amount has touched Rs 28 crore.

In Bokaro, investigations have revealed that more than Rs 6 crore was allegedly withdrawn from the treasury’s salary disbursement account by a police department accountant, who has been arrested.
