Jammu, Mar 16 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday urged the Lt Governor administration to consider release of all those who were detained in the valley following protests over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra advocated for the release of the detained youth in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr as a goodwill gesture so that the families may celebrate the festival together.
“We request Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene into matter and direct release of all those youth, who took part in protests in different parts of the valley over the assassination of Khamenei by the US-Israel. They were detained by the police as a preventive measure,” Karra said in a statement here.
He said the protest was a reflection of anger to mourn the killing of Iran’s supreme leader and they are not involved in any illegal activities and belong to mainstream political and social activism.
“In view of this background and the forthcoming holy festival of Eid, it is desired that all such people should be released forthwith,” he said.
Karra also appealed to the society in Kashmir to maintain their calm over the issue. PTI TAS TAS KVK KVK
