Jishnu Dev Varma sworn in as Maharashtra’s 22nd Governor

Mumbai, Mar 10 (PTI) Jishnu Dev Varma was on Tuesday sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Maharashtra.

Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, administered the oath of office to Varma at Darbar Hall of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar congratulated Varma, a member of the Manikya royal dynasty of Tripura and former Governor of Telangana, on his new appointment.

The Governor was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the Indian Navy soon after the oath taking ceremony.

Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat held the additional charge as Maharashtra Governor following the election of C P Radhakrishnan as the vice president on September 12 last year.

At Tuesdya’s ceremony, Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Droupadi Murmu, regarding Varma’s appointment as the Governor.

Varma was deputy CM of Tripura from 2018 to 2023 and handled Finance, Rural Development and Power portdolios.

Varma, who has a keen interest in modern art, painting and sculpture, was the convener of the Tripura chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and coordinated the organisation’s activities in Northeast India, an official release said.
