Ranchi, Mar 29 (PTI) Jharkhand BJP chief Aditya Sahu on Sunday alleged that the state government is constructing a new residence for Chief Minister Hemant Soren at a “cost of Rs 100 crore” and announced that the party would protest the move.

Addressing reporters at the party headquarters, Sahu claimed that the building construction department has floated a tender with an estimated cost of Rs 67 crore, excluding expenses for interiors and furniture.

“By the time it is completed, its cost is expected to exceed Rs 100 crore,” he claimed.

“The ‘Sheesh Mahal’ being constructed by the CM, who claims to be the leader of a government for the poor, is a wasteful expenditure of the hard-earned money of the tribal and indigenous people of Jharkhand,” Sahu alleged.

He claimed that the tender for the project will be uploaded on the government website on April 2, and April 29 will be the last date for submitting it.

“The Sheesh Mahal tender will be opened on April 30. A pre-bid meeting will be held on April 8,” he said.

Congress, an ally of the JMM-led alliance government, slammed the BJP and stated that such “unnecessary controversies” are being stirred up to divert people’s attention from real issues such as inflation, LPG shortage and unemployment.

Reacting to Sahu’s statements, Jharkhand Congress general secretary and media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said the construction of the CM’s residence is not a matter of personal luxury, but rather an issue linked to administrative requirements and security standards.

“The BJP is stirring up such unnecessary controversies to divert attention from the public’s real issues such as inflation, LPG shortage, unemployment, education and healthcare,” Sinha said in a press release. PTI SAN MNB
