Medininagar, Mar 17 (PTI) Nine police personnel have been suspended in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, after 36 LPG cylinders were allegedly stolen from the basement of a building where an explosion took place on March 15, police said.
A blast rocked the basement of the building at Bairiya Chowk, where around 61 LPG cylinders had been illegally stored, they said.
A total of 36 cylinders went missing from the site after the explosion damaged the basement’s rear wall, a police officer said.
SDPO Rajeev Ranjan said nine personnel were suspended for alleged negligence in duty. The theft was attributed to lapses in security by the officers deployed at the spot, he said.
Meanwhile, a 47-year-old man, who runs a gas agency in Kutmu, was arrested for “illegally storing” LPG cylinders at his residence.
An FIR has been registered against him under sections of the Essential Commodities Act, 1965, the police said in a statement.
During investigation, police discovered that he had hidden 36 cylinders by loading those into a van, which was impounded, it said. PTI RPS SOM RPS RBT
