New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will on Thursday embark on a four-day visit to Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss ways to bolster bilateral ties.
In the first leg of his trip, Jaishankar will travel to Mauritius to attend the 9th Indian Ocean Conference and review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties.
The external affairs minister will meet the leadership of Mauritius and review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Jaishankar’s April 9 to 10 visit to the island nation.
On the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference, Jaishankar is expected to hold discussions with counterparts from other participating nations, it said.
“The visit underscores India’s Neighbourhood First’ policy, vision MAHASAGAR, and commitment to the Global South,” the MEA said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the vision MAHASAGAR or “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions” for India’s engagement with the Global South during his visit to Mauritius in March last year.
In the second leg of the visit, Jaishankar will visit to the United Arab Emirates from April 11 to 12. The external affairs minister will meet the leadership of the UAE to review close cooperation and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the MEA said.
The West Asia situation is also set to figure in Jaishankar’s meetings in the UAE. PTI MPB ZMN
