New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya in Washington D.C. Sunday, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two nations. This marked their second meeting, following their encounter on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Italy in November 2024, a PIB press release stated.

The ministers reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including political, security, economic, technological, and people-to-people exchanges. They expressed satisfaction with the momentum and depth of the relationship between the two countries, the release said.

To further enhance communication and strategic alignment, the ministers agreed to maintain regular dialogue through existing mechanisms like the Strategic Dialogue and the 2+2 Dialogue of Foreign and Defence Ministers.  EAM Jaishankar extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Iwaya to visit India.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1985 Memorandum of Understanding on Science & Technology cooperation, the ministers designated 2025-26 as the India-Japan Year of Science, Technology, and Innovation. They also highlighted the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges, particularly in technology, skills, and education.
