Jammu, Mar 16 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a chargesheet against a revenue official in a case involving alleged misuse of official position in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said.

The ACB presented the chargesheet before the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Udhampur, against Mohd Saleem Banday, a former Patwari Halqa Mand in Udhampur, on allegations of illegally attesting mutation on August 9, 2006, under agrarian reforms act in favour of certain beneficiaries.

According to officials, a case was registered under the anti-corruption law following a verification by the ACB into allegations that ownership rights were conferred out of turn through misuse of official authority, they said.

Investigators found that Section 6 of the Agrarian Reforms Act — applicable to dwelling houses occupied by tillers was not relevant in the present case, as the property in question consisted of commercial structures, they said.

Officials alleged that Banday and the then Naib Tehsildar, Tikri, who has since died, abused their official position to confer undue benefits upon the beneficiaries in violation of prescribed rules, they said.

The ACB said Banday has also been arrested in another bribery trap case registered in ACB and is presently in judicial custody. Another case registered against him in 2013 is under investigation, officials added. PTI AB AB SKY SKY
