New Delhi: US ambassador Eric Garcetti was hosted by actor Shah Rukh Khan in his Mumbai home Tuesday where the duo discussed the cultural impact of American and desi cinema across the globe.
Taking to Twitter, the ambassador wrote, “Is it time for my Bollywood debut? Had a wonderful chat with superstar @iamsrk at his residence Mannat, learning more about the film industry in Mumbai and discussing the huge cultural impact of Hollywood and Bollywood across the globe.”

The US ambassador also met Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani and discussed the company’s innovations in the renewable energy sector, and explored avenues for more economic cooperation between India and US.
He also made a visit to the Nita Mukesh Aambani Cultural Centre and Mani Bhavan — Mahatma Gandhi’s Mumbai headquarters — and signed the guest book, which was also autographed by Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King during their visit in 1959.
Garcetti also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Tuesday, and talked about strategic business priorities, climate action, and inclusion of women in the workplace.
The ambassador — sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris in March – also visited Gujarat in this trip, stopped at the Sabarmati Ashram and also watched an Indian Premier League game in Ahmedabad.
On 15 May, Garcetti tweeted that the relationship between India and the United States was based on a shared desire for stronger economies and a peaceful, prosperous Indo-Pacific region, and that the two countries stood together whenever this desire was challenged.
He added that the two nations were an integral part of a shared strategy to secure the Indo-Pacific region and keep its people safe. Additionally, Garcetti said the two nations would strengthen their defence ties and collaborate in areas such as space and technology.
Welcoming him to India, the Indian Embassy in the US tweeted, “Namaste, Ambassador-Designate Eric Garcetti! We’re thrilled to welcome you to #IncredibleIndia and work with you to build even stronger ties between our two great nations.”
