Indian students excel at International Earth Sciences Olympiad

The annual competition saw over 35 countries participate. The Indian team bagged three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.

The Indian student team has bagged prestigious medals at the International Earth Sciences Olympiad (IESO) held in Beijing, between 8 and 16 August. The four-member Indian student team comprising students from Gujarat, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan have won three gold and bronze each and two silver medals across three competition categories (Theory and Practical, Earth System Project, and International Team Filed Investigation), a PIB press release stated.

The team was congratulated by Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Ministry of Science and Technology, MoS PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, for bringing the laurels to the country. Singh expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the students.

IESO is an annual competition that assesses students on various aspects of earth sciences including geology, meteorology, oceanography, and environmental sciences. This year’s edition saw students from over 35 countries.
