New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is set to host a six-day training program on human rights for senior officials from various National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) across the Global South, a PIB release announced. The program, running from 11 to 16 November in New Delhi, is aimed at bolstering the promotion and protection of human rights in diverse regions.

Participants from NHRIs in eight countries, including Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Jordan, will attend the capacity-building program. The initiative will provide insights into NHRC India’s three decades of experience in safeguarding human rights, incorporating the nation’s historical ethos of empathy and compassion, the release added.

The program will cover a wide range of human rights issues, including NHRC India’s online complaint management system, advanced investigation mechanisms, emerging human rights challenges, and the impact of business, technology, and sustainable development on human rights. Participants will have the opportunity to share best practices, experiences, and ideas with fellow attendees.

Sessions will be led by prominent figures in human rights, including former NHRC Members Justice M.M. Kumar, Dr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, and Mr. Rajiv Jain, along with NHRC India Secretary General Mr. Bharat Lal.  The program will also feature presentations by Mr. Asoke Kumar Mukerji, India’s former Ambassador to the UN, and Mr. Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India.
