New Delhi: The government of India has set up seven new cultural centres across the country to promote folk arts and traditions. These centres are part of the effort to safeguard the diversity of rural and tribal cultures, which are slowly vanishing, a PIB press release stated.
The new centres are set up in Patiala, Nagpur, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Dimapur, and Thanjavur. They will provide support for various cultural activities and programmes across the year, including the award of young talent awards, guru shishya parampara, theatre rejuvenation, research and documentation, Shilpgram, and Octave.
The Ministry of Culture has earmarked funds for the preservation and promotion of tribal culture, heritage, and practices. The funds will be released to all the seven zonal cultural centres to organize various cultural activities and programmes throughout the country.
The government of India is committed to promoting the cultural traditions, folk arts, and songs of rural and tribal areas. The new cultural centres will play a significant role in safeguarding the diversity of our society and culture. For the preservation and promotion of tribal culture, heritage, and practices, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs also provides financial support to its Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) in States/ UTs. The TRIs are responsible for conducting research studies, publishing books, and documenting audio visual documentaries for the promotion of rich tribal cultural heritage.
