New Delhi: The Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism of India and France met Monday in New Delhi. The meeting was headed by Joint Secretary of External Affairs of India, K.D. Dewal, and Assistant High Commissioner for Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime of the French delegation, Olivier Caron.
The two sides discussed the terrorist threats in their respective regions, including state-sponsored terrorism in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as terror activities in the Af-Pak region. The two sides exchanged views on the use of new and emerging technologies by terrorists, the misuse of the internet for terrorist purposes, radicalization, and terror financing.
The Indian side also presented its viewpoints on the NMFT and FATF, which led to an exchange of respective positions by the two sides. The two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation through information sharing, capacity building, training programs, and exercises, as well as cooperation at the multilateral fora, such as the UN, FATF, and NMFT.
The two sides agreed to hold the 17th Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in France on a mutually agreed date.
