New Delhi: The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) and the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) have commenced the second International Buddhist Media Conclave 2024 with the theme “Mindful Communication for Conflict Avoidance and Sustainable Development”. The conclave was started with the lighting of the lamp by Gurumurthy, Chairman, VIF. Following the lighting ceremony, three-time Grammy awardee Ricky Kej joined the IBC dignitaries in addressing the participants, a PIB press release stated.

Former Indian football team captain Baichung Bhutia was also present on the occasion. He addressed the participants and emphasised the importance of Buddhism in spreading peace and brotherhood across the world. He highlighted that the teachings of Buddhas have the message of peace and sacrifice, and also emphasised the role of the media in spreading this message.

It was also emphasised by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF, that in today’s world, it is very important to restore civilizational values through thought and action. He noted that over the years, Hindu and Buddhist scholars have had the opportunity to discuss these issues. It was also emphasised by him that it is crucial for the media to focus on ethical conduct and enlightenment while carrying out balanced and ethical reporting.

IBC Secretary General Shartse Khensur Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden called for a world driven by truthfulness, compassion, and altruism, which are the key attributes of Buddha’s teachings. He emphasised that at a time when greed and conflicts are rising, the guidance of Buddha is crucial for the people.
