Gondia, Apr 6 (PTI) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Mangesh Gondavale on Monday assumed charge as the new collector of Gondia district in eastern Maharashtra.

Officiating Additional Collector and Resident Deputy Collector (RDC) Bhaiyasaheb Behre handed over the charge to the 2015-batch IAS officer at a brief ceremony held at Collectorate.

Gondavale, who previously served as Managing Director of MAIDC (Maharashtra Agriculture Industrial Development Corporation), succeeded Prajit Nair, who has been transferred.

Talking to the media later, the new district collector listed his priorities and asserted his focus will be on ensuring welfare of Gondia residents and pushing for industrial growth.

“This is my first posting in Vidarbha and Gondia being a tribal majority district, having more than 51 per cent forest cover, offers big potential to work in these fields. Beside we would like to explore the possibility for industrial growth of the district,” Gondavale said.

Before coming to Vidarbha, the bureaucrat has mostly served in Marathwada in central Maharashtra and Mumbai.

Gondavale has completed his PhD in economics with specialisation in taxation and has vast experience of working in the GST department. PTI COR RSY
