Beed, Apr 3 (PTI) Heavy unseasonal rains caused damage to several structures in Beed district on Friday afternoon, an official said.

Tin sheet roofs of 40-50 houses were blown away by gusty winds that accompanied rain in villages like Walipur, Ghatjawla and Jalwa Tanda, Beed tehsildar Chandrakant Shelke said.

“The walls of some houses and cattle sheds also faced extensive damage. We have reports of trees being uprooted. Standing crops were also destroyed in some areas,” he added.

Farmers in the region said they are staring at severe losses, adding that such intense April rain has not been witnessed in the past several decades.

“Assessment of crop loss and damage to houses and other structures will begin from Saturday morning,” Shelke informed. PTI COR BNM
