New Delhi: Union Power Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla is set to be the new home secretary when incumbent Rajiv Gauba retires at the end of August.
Bhalla will be replaced in the power ministry by current Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, an order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet stated.
Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been appointed Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs. This is a clear indication that he will be the new home secretary when Gauba, who is in the race to be the new cabinet secretary, retires.
Over at the defence ministry, additional secretary Subhash Chandra has been promoted to special secretary.
Current Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra, who is on extension, is set to retire at the end of August, but he too is in the race to be the new cabinet secretary.

This is totally nonsense because we all know very well that in our country the education infrastructure of urban and rural is totally different and also many minorities in India educationlly backward, it effects the the academics of student but when any aspirant think of IAS he get inspiration and motivation and by doing hard work and made himself capable to achieve his aim .
But when this type of completion made by administrators than we again pull down this aspirant .
We all know very well no one is extra talented only hard work and dedication made any one talented and capable .
And when any aspirant is not good in academics even than he made himself capable than he also got power to survive in adverse than also.
The basis of giving marks in the foundation course should be transparent, leaving no room for favouritism casteism or corruption.
The allotment of Services and Cadre should be done only after the marks of the foundation course are added to the other marks, so that the candidates can make their choices accordingly after the final marklist is prepared.
The lateral shift from Finance to Power merits a follow up column.
Why does the headline have say “Modi govt” to refer to the govt? Is there any other govt in the country? If the objective is not to confuse with state governments isn’t there a word “central govt” ?
A Vijay Kelkar like brilliant technocrat is required in Finance. 2. It would be a healthy convention if the Cabinet Secretary retires at the end of the fixed two year term, giving officers from alternate batches a fair shot at the top job.
