Bhopal, Apr 13 (PTI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday directed authorities to identify “black spots” on all national highways in Madhya Pradesh and ensure their permanent improvement within a stipulated timeframe.

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways issued the directives while chairing a meeting of officials of his ministry and Bhopal region of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Road stretches where accidents occur frequently are designated as “black spots”.

“He directed officials to properly identify black spots in the state and ensure their permanent improvement within the stipulated timeframe. He sought compliance with the highest standards of quality while completing all road projects in the state,” an NHAI statement said.

“Necessary geometric improvements, appropriate signage, crash barriers, road markings, lighting, and other engineering measures should be effectively implemented at each black spot to reduce road accidents and make traffic safer,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The Union minister also inquired about the progress of various projects, the quality of construction work, the status of land acquisition, and various aspects related to implementation, it said.

“Road infrastructure development is not limited to connectivity alone. It is an important foundation for the country’s economic progress and balanced regional development,” he said.

The completion of these projects is encouraging industrial and commercial activities and also creating local employment opportunities, Gadkari said.

Improved connectivity has made access to tourist destinations in the state easier, which is also boosting the tourism sector, he added. PTI MAS BNM
