Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), Jun 20 (PTI) Four persons, among them two children, were swept away in the strong currents of a swollen river in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district and are feared drowned, officials said on Friday.
Personnel from the state disaster response force (SDRF) have been involved in the search and rescue efforts following the incident that took place on Thursday evening, they said.
An official said that the victims, Somari (45), Ankita (8), Binawati Nagvanshi (30) and her son Aaryas (3), all residents of Dodhagaon village under Kerju police chowki, had gone to collect mushrooms on the banks of the Maini River.
The water level in the river suddenly rose due to heavy rainfall in the area, and all four were swept away, he said.
A police team was rushed to the spot, and the SDRF launched a rescue operation. But none of them have been traced so far, and chances of their survival are slim, the official said. PTI COR TKP ARU
