Kolkata, Mar 30 (PTI) Four senior officials of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s office were transferred on Monday as part of a reshuffle of five WBCS (Executive) officers ahead of the Assembly elections, an official said.

The reshuffle was undertaken following a proposal by the poll panel to ensure administrative neutrality.

The transfers include officers serving in the CEO’s office as well as one in the health and family welfare department.

Deputy CEO Subrata Pal was moved as senior deputy secretary in the health and family welfare department, an order issued by the personnel and administrative reforms (P&AR) department said.

An additional secretary in the office of the CEO, Narendra Nath Dutta, was posted as additional secretary in the labour department, while Supriya Das, holding the same designation, was moved to the food processing industries and horticulture department in a similar capacity, it said.

Joint secretary in the office of the CEO, Mithu Sarkar, was appointed joint secretary in the minority affairs and madrasah education department.

Rahul Nath, who was serving as additional secretary in the health and family welfare department, was named as the joint chief electoral officer in the office of the CEO, it added.

An Election Commission official said the transfers were part of routine pre-poll measures.

“Such redeployments are carried out to ensure a level playing field and maintain the integrity of the electoral process,” he said.

According to the notification, the officers have been reassigned to new postings with immediate effect and until further orders.
