Nashik, Apr 11 (PTI) Four persons were killed, three of them charred, and seven injured in an accident involving a truck and a pick-up vehicle that caught fire in Maharashtra’s Nashik district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
The accident took place near Shindewadi Shivar on Shaha-Panchale road in the Sinnar taluka, they said.
According to officials, nearly a dozen persons were on their way home in Panchale village from Pangri side after attending a religious programme at a relative’s house.
Around 1.15 am, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the pick-up vehicle they were travelling in and dragged it for nearly 100 feet. The pick-up vehicle then erupted in flames, they said.
Three occupants of the pick-up vehicle were burnt to death, while an old woman, who was travelling with them, died as she could not bear the mental trauma, officials said. As many as seven occupants of the pick-up vehicle sustained injuries, they said.
The deceased persons have been identified as Kiran Ravi More (23), Shubham Ganesh Navale (21), Rinku Shubham Navale (19) and Mirabai Vishwanath Gangurde (68).
The truck driver has been arrested and the Sinnar MIDC police are probing the matter, an official said. PTI COR NR
