Korba, Mar 18 (PTI) Five persons, including a woman and her nine-year-old granddaughter, were killed in two separate road accidents in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.

While the first accident occurred on Tuesday night, the other one took place on Wednesday morning, they said.

Three workers were killed after a coal-laden trailer truck lost control and overturned on their motorcycle in the Pali police station area at around 9 am on Wednesday, a police official here said.

The truck was heading to Bilaspur when the driver lost control over it near Nunera village, which resulted in it overturning in the middle of the road.

Three workers, identified as Brijpal Singh Kanwar (26), Mangal Singh (28), and Om Prakash (24), were passing by from there on a motorcycle at that time, were crushed under the vehicle and died on the spot, he said.

The accident led to disruption of traffic on the route for nearly four hours. Authorities used a JCB machine to remove the coal and clear the overturned trailer before restoring movement, he said.

The police have seized the vehicle and arrested the driver.

In the second incident, Nanki Bai (60) and Manisha Kumari (9) were killed after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Rava main road near Jampani hills under the Jatga police outpost area on Tuesday night, he said.

The duo were returning home from a family function on a motorcycle driven by a relative when the accident occurred. While the rider escaped unhurt, the two were run over and died on the spot, he said.

The unidentified driver fled the scene, and police have launched a search to trace the vehicle. PTI COR TKP NP
