New Delhi: Popular engineering coaching institute FITJEE, which was facing a major crisis after its multiple centres shut down last year, has now promised a proportionate refund of fees from June 2026. The process of refund would be exclusively managed by itscorporate office in Delhi.“

The communication from FIITJEE’s core leadership expresses sincere regret for the distress caused by a pre-planned external conspiracy that created a hostile environment,” read a statement released by the coaching institute on 23 February.

Parents will receive the exact details of their refund amounts by 15 June 2026. FIITJEE will launch a dedicated email ID, active from 16 June 2026, for any parent or student needing further information.

“This mechanism reflects the institute’s core principles of truth, transparency, and commitment, as established by founder Mr DK Goel in 1992,” the statement read.

In January 2025, several FIITJEE centres shut across major cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Patna, Bhopal, Varanasi, among others, due to a severe financial crisis. The closure took place at a time when board exams were around the corner, and the competitive tests calendar was fast approaching, leaving thousands of students across the country without any coaching. Many students and parents even protested that the closure be postponed until after the exam season passed.

Parents and local authorities filed multiple FIRs against FIITJEE officials. They blamed the institution for criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and alleged financial irregularities. They said that the coaching institute took the advance fees, but the promised services were not delivered before the institute shut down. The fees varied from Rs 1 lakh to 5 lakh.

Teachers at several centres alleged they were not paid their salaries for months, which reportedly led to mass resignations and ultimately led to the centres becoming non-operational. FIITJEE, in turn, denied voluntarily closing centres, calling the crisis a result of “overnight desertion” by managing partners, and framed many of the allegations as part of a “criminal conspiracy”.

According to the press release, FITTJEE has made structural changes in the institution. Now, the institute, which has started reopening several of its previously closed centres, is shifting to a collaborative model with entrepreneurs for operating centres under the FIITJEE Universe framework. This includes FIITJEE Centres for core coaching programs, FIITJEE World Schools and Junior Colleges aligned with state boards and FIITJEE Global Schools following the CBSE curriculum.

“The model avoids traditional franchise fees or royalties, focusing instead on a one-time setup contribution and a modest annual license fee to channel resources into Strategy, Innovation and Systems Management,” the statementadded.
