New Delhi: A 31-year-old Delhi man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl with help from his wife. The alleged incident took place on 2 July when the accused, the manager of a shoe factory, called the minor – who was an employee – to his home in outer Delhi’s Nangloi.

A source in the Delhi Police familiar with the case said that the wife of the accused “held the girl” while he assaulted her.

On 5 July, three days after the alleged incident, the accused intercepted her while she was on her way home and poured some kind of liquid in her mouth that made her unconscious, Delhi police told ThePrint.

The girl, a resident of Prem Nagar in Rohini district, is the daughter of a daily wage labourer. She is now under treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP), Outer District, Sameer Sharma, told ThePrint that a PCR call was first made in this regard to Nangloi police station Friday. He added that during the inquiry, police found that the girl was under treatment at AIIMS but could not record her statement until Saturday owing to doctors’ advice.

“A case has been registered on the basis of the victim’s statement and MLC [medico-legal case] under IPC sections for rape, attempt to murder, common intention and POCSO,” DCP Sharma said.

According to the police, the accused shoe factory manager called the girl to his home on 2 July under the pretext of his wife being unwell and in need of assistance.

“When the minor reached his house, the accused sexually assaulted her with the help of his wife. A few days later, on 5 July, he stopped her on her way home and poured some liquid into her mouth. She became unconscious after reaching home and was admitted to the hospital,” DCP Sharma told ThePrint.

“The man has been arrested and interrogation is on. His wife will be apprehended soon. Further investigation is on,” DCP Sharma said.

While in a letter written to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nangloi police station Saturday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) alleged that the accused forcibly made the girl “drink acid”, the police could not confirm the same.

Police said the nature of the liquid the minor was allegedly forced to drink is “unclear” and that there are “no burn marks on her skin”.
