Madurai (Tamil Nadu) Mar 30 (PTI) Senior AIADMK leader Sellur K Raju on Monday dismissed the DMK’s Rs 8,000 coupon promise as an attempt to match the AIADMK’s Rs 10,000 poll offer.

The AIADMK has promised a one-time grant of Rs 10,000 to every family to help manage the tax burden and rising prices.

“Everything is being announced only in competition with the AIADMK. People know that Edappadi K Palaniswami does what he says and says what he does,” Raju said.

The DMK, in its manifesto, announced the ‘Illatharasi’ coupon scheme worth Rs 8,000 for women to purchase or replace household electronic goods. The party said the coupon could be used to buy appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, mixies, microwave ovens and induction stoves, or to replace them.

Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the AIADMK candidate from Madurai West claimed that the party’s manifesto had already reached the people and was being widely welcomed as the “true hero” of the elections.

Accompanied by party functionaries, Raju said the visit was aimed at seeking divine blessings for the AIADMK to return to power and for Palaniswami to become CM again.

He emphasised the party’s goal of providing a development-oriented administration and said he prayed for “a chief minister who can fulfil the needs of the people of Tamil Nadu, ensure excellent law and order, maintain peace, reduce prices, and create a drug-free Tamil Nadu.” Responding to claims by opponents regarding victory margins in the constituency, Raju said, “It is common for every candidate to emphasise their own prospects. However, it is the people who are the masters. They will assess and decide.” PTI JR SSK
