New Delhi: Every visit to Uttarakhand is like a pilgrimage for her, President Droupadi Murmu said in Dehradun Thursday, as she congratulated the people on the state’s 23rd Foundation Day.

In her address, the President said the “new identity” had enthused the hard-working people of Uttarakhand to scale new heights of development and progress.

The President also lauded the crucial contribution of statehood activist Sushila Baluni towards the creation of Uttarakhand, underscoring that she would always be an example of a woman’s power in struggle.

She highlighted the achievements of freedom fighter Bishni Devi Shah, mountaineer Bachendri Pal, green activist Gaura Devi, and hockey player Vandana Kataria, for “strengthening the culture of Uttarakhand”.

Murmu also congratulated the state’s youth who have joined the Army, saying this feeling of enthusiasm towards defending the nation was exemplary for all citizens.

In her address, she said that the physical and digital connectivity in Uttarakhand was continuously increasing, as was infrastructure development. Multi-dimensional progress in Uttarakhand was leading to heightened enthusiasm among investors, Murmu noted, expressing her satisfaction at the BJP-ruled state government’s focus on both ecology and economy.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami outlined several initiatives his government was about to adopt, among which were two for women. He also said there were plans to make the state’s villages and cities drug-free, and one to eradicate child labour.
