Faridabad, Jan 12 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday urged panchayat members in Palwal and Faridabad districts to pledge to establish a corruption-free and transparent system.

While interacting with sarpanch, panchayat samiti and zilla parishad members during the ‘Mantrana’ programme in Palwal, Khattar also told them to work hard to live up to the expectations of those who had entrusted them with their votes.

He said the Haryana government has completed 3,000 days of its tenure today.

Before independence, Mahatma Gandhi had dreamed of Gram Swaraj – an idea of the self-reliant village and how the governance system of rural India should be strengthened so that the message of freedom could reach every village, Khattar said.

The khap panchayats established since ancient times have also done commendable work from time to time and played a significant role in making the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ scheme a mass movement, he said.

“The tradition of panchayats dates back to the time of Rigveda, thus every elected representative of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) should discharge their responsibility with complete honesty,” Khattar said, while urging them to develop a corruption-free and transparent system.

With the use of technology, radical changes have been brought to ensure that benefits of every welfare scheme reached the last mile citizen or ‘Antyodaya’, he said.

The life of the common man is getting better and easier with schemes like ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ and ‘CHIRAYU Haryana’. Also, in the last eight years, more than one lakh government jobs have been given on merit, the CM said.

An amount of Rs 300 crore was released for unanimously elected PRI representatives. This time, out of 70,000 representatives, 40,000 were elected unanimously, Khattar said, adding this system has promoted social harmony and mutual brotherhood.

Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal who was present at the event said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Khattar, the Central and state governments have done commendable work in eight years.

During this tenure, corruption has been rooted out and benefits of government schemes reached the last mile citizen, he said.

Pal said that accounts of 45 crore poor families were opened and financial assistance of Rs 500 each was provided to them during the COVID-19 pandemic. PTI COR NB
