New Delhi: MP Police on Monday said they arrested the younger brother of Al-Falah University’s founder in connection with alleged cheating and fraud cases registered 25 years ago.

Police said Hamood Siddiqui was absconding for over two decades and was arrested from Hyderabad Sunday.

Al-Falah University came into the spotlight after investigators said at least three Kashmiri doctors of its medical college were involved in planning and carrying out the 10 November blast near Red Fort in Delhi. One of them was the alleged suicide bomber, and two others – now in custody – are suspected members of the terror module linked to banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

ThePrint reported last week that Hamood and his brother Javed Siddiqui – who founded the Faridabad university – are named in multiple cases of cheating and forgery registered in MP’s Mhow and Delhi.

Hamood, police said, faces criminal charges for failing to pay dividends on investments into two of his firms – Al-Fahad Investments and Al-Fahad Fincom. aved, they said, is named in similar cases linked to his firm, Al-Falah Investment.

Indore Superintendent of Police (Rural) Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia said in a press conference Monday that Hamood was arrested by a term of MP Police.

“We arrested Hamood Siddiqui from Hyderabad. He used to run his own share-market investment company in Hyderabad. He ran an investment company called Al-Fahad Fincom Ltd. He was the managing director, along with his wife and another acquaintance,” the SP said.

“They (brothers) embezzled millions of rupees… He took money from people, promising to give them around 20% interest. He ran the company for about two years, and in the third year, he and his family absconded,” she added.

Last week, Delhi Police summoned Javed after the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accused the university of wrongly claiming that it was recognised by the body.
