Kota (Rajasthan), Jul 11 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday said that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign is more than planting trees and it is a commitment to conserve the environment in providing a sustainable future for coming generations.

Birla, who is an MP from Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan, planted a Bilva tree on the first day of the Shravan month at the Khel Sankul Ground sports complex in his constituency along with social organisations, intellectuals and students of the city on Friday.

During the programme, initiatives related to water conservation under the ‘From Workplace to Motherland’ campaign were also inaugurated.

Speaking on the occasion, Birla said Bundi is not just a town but a living symbol of bravery, faith and cultural heritage. It is the land of Hadi Rani, where forts, stepwells and valleys are examples of incredible heritage. He announced plans to build a grand museum in Bundi to connect future generations with these values.

Mentioning the progress of the first phase of the sports complex, Birla said that facilities like a synthetic football ground, lawn tennis court, shooting range and other sports amenities would be developed here.

A modern library will also be established in the complex, providing all sports facilities in one place for the convenience of athletes, he added.

Birla highlighted the age-old tradition of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge in Rajasthan. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government’s Ministry of Water Resources has launched the ‘From Workplace to Motherland’ campaign, he said.

This initiative involves constructing rainwater harvesting structures in rural areas with the participation of philanthropists and non-resident Rajasthanis. The campaign is not possible without public participation, he added.

Birla also noted that Bundi is being developed as an agro-industrial hub, with significant steps taken in industry, tourism, water conservation and connectivity.

Later, Speaker Birla interacted with the public at the Bundi Circuit House, listening to their issues related to roads, drinking water, electricity, health and administrative services.

He instructed officials to ensure the prompt solution of public grievances and the timely provision of facilities. He emphasised that both public representatives and the administration have the responsibility to meet the expectations of the citizens. PTI COR SMV SMV KSS KSS
