New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) Election Commission officials on Monday rubbished Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim that 200 vehicles carrying CRPF personnel from BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh were sent to the poll-bound West Bengal.

They said the Election Commission’s (EC) objective is to ensure fear-free, peaceful, and fair elections in West Bengal.

“All deployments of central forces are being carried out as per established standard operating procedure in an impartial manner,” an official said.

Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress chief, purportedly claimed that CRPF personnel from Uttar Pradesh were brought to West Bengal in 200 vehicles.

“…This is a 15-25 day game. After that, they will understand the real game…” she purportedly said.

Elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29.

Banerjee has often accused the EC of working as a front office of the BJP and toeing its line.

The Special Intensive Revision of voters’ list in the state has further created fissures between the TMC and the EC. PTI NAB DIV DIV
