New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI)The Election Commission on Thursday appointed returning officers (ROs) for all 294 assembly constituencies for poll-bound West Bengal.
Officials said on the insistence of the Election Commission, the West Bengal government has now provided officers of “requisite seniority” for being appointed as returning officers for the forthcoming assembly elections.
Now, the EC has issued the notification for the appointment of ROs.
ROs were appointed in the state the last time in 2023. Some of the ROs appointed are from the 2023 lot, while most are new, a functionary explained.
The EC had recently visited the state to assess poll preparedness and the elections could take place in April along with Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry.
The EC and the West Bengal government of the Trinamool Congress (TMC)have been at loggerheads on various issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list.
The opposition is also planning to seek the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar by Parliament alleging his partisan approach. PTI NAB NAB KSS KSS
