New Delhi, Mar 19 (PTI) The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is set to overhaul its billing operations by geo-tagging consumer properties and other billing reforms, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Thursday.
Singh, headed a board meeting of the DJB, where he also approved a Rs 71.12-crore project for in-situ treatment of wastewater in the Delhi Gate drain.
“People of Delhi want to pay their water bills and fulfil their responsibility. The problem arises when someone suddenly receives an inflated bill, when a meter is not functioning, or when bills don’t reach households on time,” he said.
This is not merely a technical upgrade but a step towards restoring confidence in the system. Within six months, every registered consumer is expected to have a verified digital record, reducing disputes and improving service delivery, Singh added.
The DJB plans technology-enabled meter readings with photo capture, GPS tagging for accuracy and accountability and proper bill delivery with proof of delivery.
The reforms will be implemented at the cost of Rs 60 crore.

“The water billing has become a major source of distress for households, the board has approved a city-wide door-to-door e-KYC and digital database update drive covering nearly 35 lakh consumers,” Singh added.
