Mumbai, Mar 14 (PTI) The Maharashtra government has renamed the Divyang Welfare Department as Divyang Empowerment Department, marking a shift from welfare to empowerment.
A Government Resolution (GR) dated March 13 stated that the department has also been restructured. The office of the Commissioner of Divyang Welfare will now be called the Office of Divyang Empowerment.
The district level will have a Divyang Empowerment Office (DEO).
Mumbai city and suburbs will head the office at the district level.
In the rest of the state, the chief electoral officer of the Zilla Parishad will head the DEO.
At the Mantralaya level, 67 posts have been approved, and 1,402 posts for the rest of the state.
The order marks a shift from welfare to empowerment, removing barriers, providing training/aids, and ensuring dignified societal participation as per the 2016 Act.
