New Delhi, Mar 19 (PTI) A 45-year-old labourer died while another worker was injured after they suffered an electric shock during construction work in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera area on Thursday, police said.

The incident was reported around 2:30 pm, following which a police team rushed to the spot. By the time it reached, the two injured men were already shifted to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, they said.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that the victims were engaged in construction work at a house in the area. One of the labourers, Jhulan (32), was on the first floor and he picked up a bamboo to pass it to his co-worker Rajkumar, also known as Ramchandra (45), who was on the second floor.

Police said the bamboo accidentally came in contact with a high-tension electric line, leading to a powerful electric shock. Both men sustained serious injuries in the incident.

“Due to the impact of the electric current, Rajkumar fell to the first floor while Jhulan fell to the ground floor,” a police officer said.

Both were rushed to the hospital, where Rajkumar was declared dead during treatment, police said. Jhulan, a native of Bihar currently residing in Kapashera and working as a mason, is undergoing treatment.

A crime team inspected the spot and collected evidence. The body has been shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem.

Police said a case under relevant sections of law will be registered. PTI SSJ RC
