New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Saturday said the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh aims to strengthen the sports ecosystem in the capital and provide young athletes with opportunities to compete and prepare for higher-level competitions.

Speaking at the finals of the volleyball competition held at SKV A Block School in Janakpuri, Sood said the initiative is aimed at encouraging participation of the youth in sports and helping athletes prepare for national and international events.

Additional Director Nitin Jindal was also present on the occasion.

According to a statement, more than 23,000 players have participated in different sports during the past month of the competition. Several final and semifinal matches across sports such as volleyball, football, basketball and wrestling were held on Saturday as the multi-sport event moves towards its concluding stages.

In the men’s open category volleyball final, LPN Club defeated Masters Academy to claim the title. In the women’s open category final, Jaunti Club defeated Tikri Kalan to win the title.

In football, the semifinal of the girls’ school category was played at Kohat Enclave Sports Complex between JDMC and Modern School, Vasant Vihar. The JDMC team won the match 3-“0 to enter the final, it added. PTI SHB MNK MNK
