New Delhi, Apr 12 (PTI) Delhi BJP’s women leaders, including Lok Sabha MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj, on Sunday released a phone number for drumming up support for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

In a press conference, they appealed to the people to give a missed call on the number 9667173333 to extend their support to the legislation.

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, more commonly known as the Women’s Reservation Act, was passed in 2023. The Union Cabinet is learnt to have cleared a draft Bill for amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act to raise the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816 with 273 reserved for women, and its implementation in the 2029 general elections.

The government has extended the Budget Session of Parliament and a special three-day sitting will be held from April 16 to 18, where the amendment Bill is expected to be discussed and passed.

Several BJP leaders, including state vice president Yogita Singh, Mahila Morcha in-charge Shyambala, Morcha general secretary Priyal Bhardwaj and spokesperson Neoma Gupta, were present at the release of the campaign phone number.

Sehrawat stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, and fulfilling that vision, the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed in 2023.

She expressed hope that other political parties would also support the immediate implementation of the amended Act to give enhanced representation to women.

She added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women’s representation in Parliament, currently at 13.63 per cent, will certainly rise to 33 per cent, bringing both political and social transformation in the country.

New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj said that Indian culture embraces the concept of “Ardhanarishvara”, meaning equality is not new to us.

She noted that in 2024, women’s voter turnout was higher than men’s – ”65.8 per cent compared to 65.7 percent. Despite this, political representation remains male-dominated, she said.

She urged all political parties to rise above politics and support this socially progressive policy so that women can contribute to national policymaking. PTI VIT — MNK MNK
