New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI) A day after resigning from the Trinamool Congress, West Bengal MLA Qazi Abdur Rahim on Monday joined the Congress and said he has returned “home”.
Rahim, the sitting MLA from the Baduria constituency in North 24 Parganas district, had resigned from all his party posts on Sunday after being denied a ticket by the Trinamool Congress. He will now contest the election from the Baduria seat on a Congress ticket, Congress leaders said.
Rahim formally joined the Congress in the presence of party general secretary in-charge of West Bengal Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Pradesh Congress Committee president Shubhankar Sarkar, and several other leaders.
Welcoming him to the party, Mir said, “Abdur Rahim ji is a well-known name in West Bengal politics. He is renowned in his constituency for his work and public service.” “By joining the Congress ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, he seeks to continue working for the betterment of his constituency. You are welcome to the Congress family,” the Congress general secretary said.
In his remarks, Rahim said, “My father was active in West Bengal politics for 50 years. He remained a member of the Congress throughout his life. By joining the Congress, I am returning home; I am extremely happy about this.” PTI ASK ASK KVK KVK
