Thane, May 25 (PTI) A flying squad of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited on Thursday detected 55 cases of power theft in a village in Thane district a day after its team was attacked by irate residents there, an official said.

The attack, in which a vehicle of the firm was damaged and the team was pelted with stones resulting in a policeman getting injured, had taken place in Khoni village in the district’s Dombivali area on Wednesday, he added.

“We carried out a mega drive on Thursday and detected 55 cases of power theft in Khoni, besides illegal use of power in three places and 19 suspected meters. The team, which comprised more than 150 staffers and 30 police personnel, inspected 254 sites,” he said.

Four persons have been arrested by Manpada police under various Indian Penal Code and Arms Act provisions for Wednesday’s incident, the MSEDCL official added. PTI COR BNM BNM
