Guwahati, Aug 2 (PTI) Customised policy incentives by the Assam government have successfully attracted investments, culminating in the largest-ever project in the state— a Rs 27,000-crore Tata semiconductor plant, a top official said on Friday.
The state’s business ecosystem has received a boost since the enactment of the Assam Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Act, 2016, with the portal expanding to include more services and achieving a high application disposal rate, he added.
Addressing the inaugural session of ‘ICC Guest of the Month on Ease of Doing Business’ here, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said though at first glance EoDB as a subject may appear to be simple, but much detailing goes into making every venture a success story, an official release said.
Interaction between the government and the stakeholders at every level is very important, he said.
Kota said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been proactive in improving EoDB through various measures, like amendment of acts/rules, introduction of new policies, removal of bureaucratic red tape and engaging with industry bodies to learn the best practices across the country and adopting them.
The Chief Secretary claimed that the customised policy incentives have culminated in the largest-ever investment—the Rs 27,000-crore Tata semiconductor plant at Jagiroad.
He also maintained that the state has significantly improved its business ecosystem since the inception of the Assam EoDB Act.
To boost the business community through a Single Window Agency, the Assam EoDB portal was launched with 15 services from 7 departments, which now offers 241 services across 17 departments.
The portal has so far received 24,30,357 applications, of which 24,08,014, or 99.08 per cent, have been delivered. Only 4,571, or 0.19 per cent, applications are pending, the release said.
Kota suggested that industry bodies like the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) can research the EoDB applications received and help improve the quality of disposal of the applications.
On the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) initiative, he said it aims to improve the business ecosystem by streamlining regulations and procedures for businesses operating in the country which was implemented under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), in collaboration with various states and Union territories.
Mentioning initiatives for youths to become entrepreneurs, the Chief Secretary said 257 start-ups have been incubated so far, raising over Rs 74 crore in external funding, the release added. PTI SSG MNB
