New Delhi: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has ordered a probe after a woman doctor, posted at the CRPF Composite Hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, accused a DIG-rank officer of “misbehaving and making inappropriate advances”.

According to a CRPF officer, DIG Surinder Prasad allegedly called the doctor repeatedly, even at odd hours, and made inappropriate remarks, making her uncomfortable.

In her official complaint, lodged on 9 May, the woman doctor alleged that when she ignored the officer’s calls, he showed up at her place drunk, and made inappropriate advances at her, the officer added. The complaint states that Prasad did not stop even after she told him to not contact her, the officer said.

“The complaint says that the officer called her incessantly, which made her uncomfortable,” the senior officer added. “He also made advances at her. The complaint is being looked into by an IG-rank officer in Muzaffarpur.”

A CRPF spokesperson confirmed that an “inquiry has been ordered to establish the facts”. “The CRPF is committed to creating a safe and secure environment for its women personnel and has a zero tolerance policy for misbehaviour,” the spokesperson added.

Speaking to ThePrint, CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh said action will be taken against the officer if he is found guilty.

“The moment we got the complaint, an order to initiate an inquiry against the officer concerned was given,” he said. “Appropriate action against the officer will be taken.”

Not the first instance

This is not the first time that a DIG-rank officer of the CRPF has been accused of misbehaving with a colleague.

In December last year, a 30-year-old constable accused the force’s Chief Sports Officer (CSO) Khajan Singh of running a “sex scandal” along with another officer, and sexually harassing, raping and intimidating her for several years.

Khajan Singh is a former swimming champion who won a silver medal at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. He is also an Arjuna awardee.

Singh, along with CRPF’s wrestling coach, Inspector Surjit Singh, who had also been accused of rape, were placed under suspension by the force in March this year on the basis of the recommendations of a committee formed to investigate the charges.
