New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) CRPF Director General (DG) G P Singh assured officers and jawans on Thursday that efforts are on to expeditiously resolve the “biggest problem” of stagnation in promotions in the country’s largest paramilitary force.
He said the headquarters of the country’s largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) is working to ensure that the cadre restructuring for the ‘Group-A’ officers of the CRPF is completed and sent to the Union government by the first fortnight of May.
Cadre restructuring works to make career prospects better for the personnel of an organisation.
These remarks of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) chief came days after Parliament passed the CAPF (General Administration) Bill, 2026.
The CAPF cadre officers have said the bill is “oppressive” and they will continue to stagnate in their current ranks if Indian Police Service (IPS) deputations are not curtailed, as directed by the Supreme Court last year.
The cadre officers of these forces say that their promotions are delayed by 15 to 17 years.
The government has said the bill seeks to create a unified legal framework governing the service conditions of personnel across various CAPFs, replacing the current patchwork of separate service-rule regimes for cadre officers and those coming on deputation from the IPS.
“The biggest problem in the force today is stagnation. We will address this problem.
“We are in touch with the higher offices to resolve the issue of stagnation of the officers and subordinate officers,” Singh said, addressing the CRPF personnel at a “Valour Day” event here.
“I am sure we will be able to solve this problem successfully and ensure promotions for our staff with the same speed like the other forces,” he added.
The CRPF DG praised his personnel for the successes achieved by the force in its three main combat theatres — anti-Naxal operations, countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and counter-insurgency operations in the northeast.
He said the CRPF has provided a total of 802 companies (about 80,000 personnel) for the conduct of the Assembly polls in the four states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The CRPF has a strength of more than three lakh personnel.
The other CAPFs under the command of the Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) are the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). PTI NES RC
