Mumbai, Mar 11 (PTI) Congress Legislature party leader Vijay Waddetiwar on Wednesday alleged irregularities in the allotment of MIDC land in Ahilyanagar to private companies, claiming that around 4,000 acres were being transferred to corporate entities at undervalued rates.
The transfer of these lands, which were originally under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), was being done by bypassing proper procedures and causing concern among farmers, he claimed in the assembly.
Responding to the allegations over MIDC land in Ahilyanagar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the government was aware of the issues raised.
He acknowledged procedural lapses in the mutation and transfer of certain land parcels, and stressed that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
“The government will not allow misuse of MIDC land and all irregularities will be scrutinised,” Bawankule said.
He announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be constituted to probe the transactions, ensuring accountability at all levels, including talathi and senior revenue officials.
The minister also assured that protection for tribal land under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code would be upheld, and any orders compromising these safeguards would be reviewed.
Legal recourse would be sought if required to prevent alienation of tribal land, he added.
During the discussion, members raised concerns over large-scale land transfers, financial transactions, and the takeover of companies involved in bioenergy and other projects on agricultural land.
The assembly witnessed detailed deliberations on balancing industrial development with farmer rights and land governance.
Bawankule urged transparency in allotment procedures, emphasising that MIDC land should benefit the state and farmers, rather than private interests.
