New Delhi: The coal sector has outperformed other sectors in the last eight months, recording the highest growth rate of 11.6 percent (provisional) in February 2024, according to the Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI).

The coal industry has consistently outperformed other sectors in the last eight months, recording the highest growth rate of 11.6 percent (provisional) in February 2024, as per the base year of 2011-12. The index of the coal industry rose to 212.1 points during February 2024, compared to 190.1 points during the same period of last year, and its cumulative index has increased by 12.1 percent during April 2023-24 to February 2024 over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The growth in the coal sector is fueled by a substantial rise in coal production during February 2024, which reached 96.60 million tonnes, an increase of 11.83 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

According to experts, the sustainable double-digit growth over the past eight months can be attributed to a number of causes, including a significant increase in coal production during February 2024, with output reaching 96.60 million tonnes, a 11.83 percent rise from the same period in the previous year.
