New Delhi, Mar 23 (PTI) Shortly after US President Donald Trump announced postponing strikes on Iran’s power plants for five days, India on Monday said it is closely following all the developments relating to West Asia.

In a social media post, Trump said he has extended the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the strategically-located shipping lane between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, and that he will hold off strikes against Iranian energy sites for five days.

The US president, without sharing any details, also said that there have been “productive conversations” between the US and Iran for “complete and total resolution” to the conflict in West Asia.

When asked about Trump’s remarks, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a media briefing that New Delhi is tracking the developments.

“We are closely following these developments,” he said.

Jaiswal also made a mention of India remaining in touch with key players in West Asia and how New Delhi has been pressing for peace and stability in the region.

“As you are aware, the prime minister has been speaking to several world leaders on the ongoing conflict in the West Asia region,” he said. PTI MPB KVK KVK
