Ranchi, Mar 13 (PTI) Jharkhand CID has arrested three men from East Singhbhum for placing a person under ‘digital arrest’ and extorting more than Rs 38.62 lakh, a release said on Friday.
The arrests were made following a complaint lodged at the CID’s cybercrime police station on February 27, officials said.
“The accused defrauded the complainant by placing him under ‘digital arrest’ after identifying themselves as officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and got Rs 38,62,982 transferred to various bank accounts,” the CID said in the release.
Based on digital footprints, cyberpolice officials arrested them from two different locations with the assistance of local police.
The accused have been identified as Rohit Kumar Jain, Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, and Lokesh Mehta, they said. PTI RPS RPS MNB
