Raipur, Mar 30 (PTI) Chhattisgarh has set a new benchmark in rural housing by completing over six lakh houses in the financial year 2025-26, the highest in the country, a state government official said on Monday.

The achievement reflects a focused push on delivery, with coordinated schemes ensuring that eligible families across the state receive housing support within a defined timeline, he said.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and his deputy Vijay Sharma, the progress was driven by coordinated implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), PM JANMAN Yojana (both central schemes) and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, the official maintained.

These alignments of schemes have helped speed up execution and extend coverage, he noted.

“To achieve the goal of ‘housing for all’, 18 lakh houses were approved in the first cabinet decision of the present government (which assumed office in December 2023). All eligible beneficiaries identified in the survey list have now been covered, ensuring no deserving family is left out,” the official said.

“During the current financial year (FY26), 5.87 lakh houses were completed under PMAY-G, around 13,000 under PM JANMAN Yojana, and over 10,000 under Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana. Together, these efforts have taken the total tally beyond six lakh houses,” he added.

This is the highest number of houses completed in a single financial year in the state since the launch of the scheme (PMAY-G) in 2016, reflecting steady monitoring and time-bound implementation, according to the official.

Chief Minister Sai insisted the achievement marks a major milestone and reflects his government’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible family is deprived of housing.

“The core objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is to meet this basic need (of housing). A permanent house is not just a structure of walls and a roof, but the foundation of security, stability and a dignified life for a family,” he noted.

The CM asserted the state government is implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “housing for all” with full commitment. Effective coordination of related schemes and close monitoring at every level have helped speed up construction while maintaining quality standards.

The Chief Minister affirmed special attention is being given to transparency, quality and eligibility in the implementation of housing schemes so that the benefits reach the right individuals.

The housing schemes have also supported the rural economy. Under the ‘Dealer Didi’ model, more than 9,000 women from self-help groups supplied construction materials and became ‘Lakhpati Didi’ (SHG members with annual household income of Rs 1 lakh or more), gaining financial stability, Sai added.

Deputy Chief Minister Sharma said, “Many other SHG members have also benefited through livelihood opportunities. More than 6,000 masons have been trained across the state, including over 1,200 women known as ‘Rani Mistri’.” Sharma, who holds the Home portfolio, informed that surrendered Naxalites have also been linked to this initiative and provided with work opportunities.

‘Awas Diwas’ is observed on the 7th of every month in all gram panchayats to address issues (related to housing) at the local level. A QR code-based system at the panchayat level has made information easily accessible, Sharm added.

The state government’s approach now extends beyond housing delivery. It is now contributing to women’s participation, livelihood generation, and inclusive development while maintaining transparency in implementation, the Deputy Chief Minister maintained. PTI COR RSY
