Raipur, Mar 24 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the family of the woman who was killed in the March 22 ropeway accident in the state’s Mahasamund district, and Rs 50,000 for those who were injured in it.
The woman was killed and 16 others were injured in the incident that occurred on Sunday at hilltop Khallari Mata temple in Khallari village in Bagbahra area of the district.
The CM expressed grief over the death of the woman in the incident, and said the state government stands firmly with her family as well as the kin of the injured members in this difficult time and will extend all possible assistance, an official statement said.
Sai has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured to support them during this difficult time, it said.
Sai also said a detailed inquiry into the incident is underway and those found responsible will not be spared.
On Sunday, the accident occurred when a ropeway trolley carrying seven passengers crashed on the hill after the cable snapped while descending from the hilltop, plunging from a height of around 200’300 feet.
A 28-year-old woman from Raipur, identified as Ayushi Satkar, died on the spot. Six other occupants of the trolley, including her husband Rishabh Dhavre (29) and a relative, Chhayansh Dhavre (16), sustained injuries.
Another trolley carrying around 10 passengers, which had just begun ascending, was immediately brought back to the base. The passengers suffered minor injuries, and eight of them were discharged after primary treatment.
Following the accident, police have registered an FIR against the ropeway operating company, Ropeway and Resort Private Limited, Kolkata, and its local employees Birbal Janghel and Rameshwar Yadav.
The complaint was lodged by the Maa Khallari Devi Trust.
The ropeway service is commonly used by devotees to reach the temple situated at an elevation of around 1,100 feet. The shrine can also be accessed by climbing approximately 900 steps. PTI TKP NP
