New Delhi: Delhi has been ranked as the third-best capital city in the world for tourists, according to a survey conducted by Bounce, an international luggage storage facility available in more than 1,000 cities.

Valetta (Malta) and Abu Dhabi (UAE) have secured the top two spots with scores of 6.74 and 6.24 out of 10 respectively. Delhi scored 6.06. These are the only cities to get scores over 6.

Bounce’s Capital City Index ranked the cities on various parameters, such as average cost of hotels and public transport, average temperature, number of restaurants and tourist attractions, amount of rainfall received, Instagram-worthiness, and rate of crime.

For the survey, the company used Kayak (a UK-based travel aggregator) to find the average cost of a hotel per night. The average cost of a one-way ticket for public transport and crime rate was sourced from Numbeo, an independent website that calculates the cost of living in cities around the world. Bounce sourced average temperature data from Wikipedia and rainfall data from Climate-Data.org. The number of tourist attractions and restaurants were found on TripAdvisor.

Delhi was ranked third due to the cost of hotels — $101.87 per night — which is $35 less than the average. The survey also found that Delhi has 290.61 restaurants per square kilometre, the second-highest, right behind Valetta.

The survey also concluded that Ankara (Turkey) has the cheapest hotels; Luxembourg City (Luxembourg) the best and cheapest public transport, at zero dollars; Bangkok (Thailand) the best average temperature, 28.6 degrees Celsius; and Cairo (Egypt) the least rainfall.

Valetta topped the list in the number of restaurants and attractions, while London (UK) was the most Instagrammed city. Vaduz, the capital of the European country Liechtenstein, reported the lowest crime rate (0/100).

The research only reviewed capital cities of countries that are OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) members, have a Human Development Index of 0.8 or higher, or are among the top 50 economies of the world.
