Jaipur, Mar 24 (PTI) Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra on Tuesday accused the Centre of failing to prepare for the potential LPG and petroleum products shortage amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Addressing a meeting of party departments and frontal organisations at the Congress headquarters here, Dotasra cited concerns raised by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who had earlier urged the government to hold discussions with all parties on the issue.
Dotasra claimed that despite initial dismissal of such concerns by BJP leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi later acknowledged the possibility of disruptions due to the war.
“The country may face a crisis of LPG and petroleum products due to the ongoing war in West Asia, but instead of building consensus and preparing a strategy, the government has failed to act in time,” he said.
He alleged that people across the country were already facing difficulties due to a shortage of cooking gas, attributing it to what he termed as the Centre’s “faulty foreign policy”.
“Industries dependent on gas, such as printing, ceramics and fertilisers, are either shutting down or reducing operations, leading to unemployment,” Dotasra said, adding that the situation was affecting households and even social events.
The Congress leader announced that the party would hold a protest in Jaipur on March 27 to raise the issue and press the government for corrective measures.
He also directed party units to expand their organisational presence down to the booth level and actively engage with people on public issues. PTI AG OZ OZ
