New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Friday reviewed the enforcement action by government in Delhi-NCR and Punjab on its directions towards abatement of air pollution in the region.

The commission’s sub-committee held a meeting to examine actions taken by the governments in Delhi-NCR region and Punjab on vehicles, road dust, construction and demolition waste, stubble burning, municipal solid waste, etc.

“During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on sector-specific enforcement measures and the progress made by the concerned implementing agencies in compliance with statutory directions/advisories/orders issued by the commission towards abatement of air pollution in the region,” an official said.

On pollution due to vehicles, the CAQM reviewed measures taken by concerned agencies to decongest traffic points, minimise congestion, and reduce vehicular emissions.

The commission also took stock of the status of collection, transportation, processing and management of construction and demolition waste.

“The implementation of CAQM statutory direction number 92, mandating use of paddy straw based bio-mass pellets to be used in brick kilns (aiming 50 pc by November 2028) located in Punjab and non-NCR districts of Haryana for prevention and control of paddy stubble burning was also reviewed,” the official said.
